Chef/Journalist Asata Reid started
the food-education sessions of Life Chef to help fill the
information gap between what you know you "should" be eating
and sometimes confusing dilemma of "how" to eat healthfully.
Chef Asata completed her degree in Culinary Arts from the
Art Institute of Atlanta in 2000, and has been a
professional chef for nearly a decade in some of Atlanta's
top-rated restaurants and private homes.
The list of notable restaurants where she has practiced her
culinary artistry includes Dish Restaurant, the Food Studio
and Nikolai's Roof (both recipients of the AAA Four Diamond
Award) and the vegan restaurant, Lush. Asata has also
catered through Bold American Catering, and with an upscale
staffing company for private estates in Atlanta. As a
private chef, Asata specializes in healthful creations, and
in the specific dietary needs and wants of her high-end
clientele.
She has been a member of the Sevananda Natural Foods Co-Op
in Atlanta since 2006, where she also teaches the Natural
Food Education Series. Asata leads monthly Life Chef classes
at St. Philip AME Church in Atlanta, and is a regular
contributor to www.EatLocalAmerica.coop and www.FoodBuzz.com.
She also hosts corporate and community cooking demos through
a partnership with Kaiser Permanente, and has held cooking
demos at the Green Market at Piedmont Park, the East Atlanta
Village Farmer’s Market, the National Black Arts Festival
and many corporate, government and community establishments
including Coca Cola, the Quaker Oats Company, Piedmont
National, Henry County Board of Directors, Lovejoy High
School, Hillcrest Church of Christ and others.
